Using a smooth small putty knife to gently pry near each anchor point generally works well. First work in a circle from point to point gently prying. You may find one section appears much easier to get started than the others. Be sure to cover any paint area you use as a fulcrum for the putty knife. If you feel you need to get more upward motion you can loop a piece of cloth in and out between grill slats, but be sure to at least get two or three grill slats so you're lifting force is not concentrated on just one of the little grill slats.

Slow and easy does it.
