[DeTomaso] 2000 RPM Drone, and DynamaxVT Mufflers?

I have a '71 Mach 1 mustang that had too much muffler noise for me. I was trying to figure out what type of replacement mufflers I should get to quiet it down some but still have it sound good. The problem I faced was that whatever muffler I would pick I was stuck with it because you couldn't return them.

When I read the post about the DynamaxVT mufflers (thank you to whoever that was) and they said they had a 90 money back guarantee if you didn't like the way they performed I went to my local Advanced Auto store and got two ($100 each). I put them on the Mustang and I'm quite happy with them. After taking off the old mufflers I now know why they were so loud.....the guts were completely rusted away.

The VTs give a much more subdued rumble at idle but if you punch the throttle they bark real good. At highway speeds (between 2500 and 3000 rpms) the car is much quieter (now I can even hear the radio without having to crank it up).

Subject: [DeTomaso] 2000 RPM Drone, and DynamaxVT Mufflers?

Guys:

I seem to have a teeth grinding drone from about 1950 to 2050RPM. And
while I do know that the way to stop that is not to drive at that RPM, I
would like to do something a touch more elegant... like prevent the drone
in the first place.

Currently I've got 2.5" collectors into 2.5" exhaust pipes, into the
single 2.5" Magnaflow inlet, and exiting out dual 2.5" tips. And outside of
that annoying 2000RPM area, I'm very happy with them... but not so happy
that I do NOT want to get rid of that really *annoying* drone.

So, anyone have any suggestions, or recommendations for a proven
"anti-drone" muffler, or have used such a muffler?

Not long ago, someone posted regarding the DynomaxVT muffler, which is
advertised to prevent "drone". They've also got a life time warranty on
their valve/spring system which is the heart of their "anti-drone" system.

I don't know of any other performance muffler that is described as being
"anti-drone"...

Thanks,

Chris
