I recently posted a 408C that we did that made over 550 HP with the TFS 2V
CNC
ported heads and a street hydraulic roller cam that's peaking at 6000 RPM:

It goes back on the dyno soon to test some better intakes, heads and
headers.
Mike Drew's 408C (unported CHI-4V heads and ported Blue Thunder dual
plane) made
526 HP on its best pull (we know a few more tricks now where we could get
more
out of it without any sacrifice in street manners):

We've also done similar engines with iron 2V and 4V heads.  Note that
all of those
dyno numbers are through the exhaust (including mufflers) with street
type cams.
Kelly Coffield's solid roller Fontana with lightly ported C302B's made
over 600 HP
during break-in testing with a single 4 barrel carb.  It goes back on
the dyno soon
to see if we can sort out the EFI.  Dave McLain also did a 438 cubic
inch Clevor
with unported CHI 3V heads and street solid roller that made over 660
HP at 6400 RPM.

It's all in the combination of parts.  We've seen 60 HP difference
between the best
and worst intake manifolds and 50 HP between mufflers, for instance.
You can make
550 HP with a number of different heads, including iron 4V heads.  For
a street engine,
the trick is to make the best average power (not just a big peak
number) in the desired
RPM band without giving up good manners on the street.
