[DeTomaso] Ethanol "enriched" (diluted) fuel

Yes but "boat gas" is typically 93 octane, so you have 2 variables and your test cannot differentiate between Premium to Regular (straight) gas and regular straight gas to E10.

Engines need to be optimized for flex fuels (compression ratio, timing etc.) soe of the mpg deficit can be gained back.

Ethanol has less energy content, so it produces less power, the flex fuels (E10 & E85) used to be cheaper to offset that reduced energy content (which manifests in the lower mpg) however that differential has all but disappeared monetarily or where 10% ethanol is mandated is no longer able to be made.

Don't get me wrong I'm not a proponent of ethanol fuels, just comparisons need to be controlled apples to apples experiments.
