[DeTomaso] Parts car?

I know what you are saying and you are right to an extent.
But with this car I see

Right rocker panel swiss cheese, and appears to be entirely absent rearward-- so not just the outboard sheet metal that is gone.
Left rocker panel swiss cheese
Left headlight bucket rusted thru
front trunk lid rusted thru

I have not seen any car with this degree of rust since I lived in Chicago in the late 1970's.

Buying a car that is structually sound but needs mechanical and cosmetic work is something a home mechanic can take on and makes sense. Replacing major structural units is not.

My car looked pretty nice when I started; but I knew the truth. If I had
ought a rough car for $10,000 less the amount of work I put into it would
ot have been that much different.
It is easy to take some nice photos of a car which really needs more of a
ake over then it seems. The make over being very similar to a car being
15,000 or a car being $40,000.
If, like me, there is no better gratification then to build the car you
ant, with your ideas, to your specification. In this respect I would much
refer to buy a car I can work with then buy a car which is done. The
hotos of the red car show it may have a lot of underlying issues but the
hotos of the $40,000 car may very well be the same car with a nice paint
ob.
I don't see $15,000 out of bounds for a Pantera in rough shape with all
t's parts. There is very little difference in a total rebuild of that and
car with issues with a shiny coat of paint.
This is what I started with.

" We all know that the cost of a restoration like this will far exceed
 what
one could possibly sell the finished car for ", that's often true.
But...you'll then have a car where all wear parts are new, every bolt is
tightened properly, it's all done to your standards, right? I think we've
all sometimes bought cars that worked fine, were shiny, and a lot of money
spent. But after getting to know it better you find a little rust, plenty
 of
loose bolts, wiring done by a 15 year old in a hurry, things attached with
only half the fasteners etc. If you want your own standards, you have to
 do
it all yourself. Even though it's not financially the best thing.

We all know that the cost of a restoration like this will far exceed what
one could possibly sell the finished car for - even billing ones own time
 at
$0.10 per hour. What is it worth - I'd say more like $1K, if even that.
Unless one just really wants to pour a lot of money and love into it and
 is
willing to take a pricey bath for the joy of the work.
