I would not put that past NASCAR at all. Remember when Dale jr won the summer race at Daytona the year his dad was killed in the Daytona 500. He was not competitive in any other race that year... divine intervention or a slightly larger restrictor???

Danica is not a part time runner in Sprint cup this year (although that doesn't have any bearing on whether or not NASCAR gave her "the call"). She's running the full season for Stewart Hass racing, so not only is she full time she's got a pretty good ride! I look for her to have a good season, maybe even a win, but I don't see her winning any big races. The last lap at Daytona showed that's she's not quite ready.

The NASCAR guys are no dummies.  The race itself might have been run on a level playing field, but nobody in the series would be adversely impacted if a part-time runner sat on pole, so I'm fairly confident there were probably some sanctioned irregularities there, as NASCAR has repeatedly been rumored 
to have done in the past.   All it would take is a restrictor plate that 
isn't quite so restrictive, and that (plus her talent, which is undeniable) would have been enough to move her to the front row.

It's all about The Show.   Just like the WWF. :>)
