The NASCAR guys are no dummies.  The race itself might have been run on a 
level playing field, but nobody in the series would be adversely impacted if 
a part-time runner sat on pole, so I'm fairly confident there were probably 
some sanctioned irregularities there, as NASCAR has repeatedly been rumored 
to have done in the past.   All it would take is a restrictor plate that 
isn't quite so restrictive, and that (plus her talent, which is undeniable) 
would have been enough to move her to the front row.

It's all about The Show.   Just like the WWF. :>)
