[DeTomaso] Pan replacement

Dear Dave,

The first time this happened to me I had exactly the same dilemma.
I called a pro to make a housecall and he proceeded to do exactly what you
don't want to do. He loosened the trunion, which permitted the shift
linkage shaft enough movement to drop the oil pan. IIRC, it didn't move out
of the way enough for a straight easy drop downward, but rather required
some persuasion to wiggle and jostle it free.

I do understand your reluctance to complete the task as I have
been there myself, but I think that with the pan back in place and the
trunion secured again, that the shift adjustment may not suffer.

                       Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

Subject: [DeTomaso] Pan replacement

I just went to take the old ford pan off and found that it hangs on the
steering shaft.
Before I pull the steering shaft I just wanted to hear if that sounded
normal.
(x member is out and the coolant lines in front are off.)

It took me forever to straighten the trunnion mount and then to get shift
gate alignment so it shifts perfectly - I really hate to take it apart.
Any "hey you forgot" ideas would be great.

thanks
dave
