Ed Zabinski posted this video on his Facebook page which I think most of
the Pantera junkies on this forum will enjoy. As most of you know, Ford
ruled the race circuits in the mid to late '60's, as portrayed with the
likes of the Cobra and GT40. To get an idea of that dominance, watch the
following 14 minutes of pure gearhead "adult film." The Cobra in the
video is way pissed off and sideways half the time but it eats 'em all
up and spits 'em all out. Hit the link, crank the speakers, and watch a
driver DRIVE!
As pointed out in an article on Bangshift.com, "This video is some
killer stuff. In fact, this video is 14-minutes of lumber generating,
ooga booga, screaming V8, road racing dominance. The driver of this
289ci Cobra competition coupe is Bill Shepherd and this video was shot
in 2010 at the Nurburgring during a historic race run on the Grand Prix
circuit at the 'Ring...... To boil it down, Shepard qualifies on the
pole for the race after completely annihilating everything else on the
race track. The little Cobra eats up Porsches like VW bugs and only has
to sweat when working around another Cobra!
"Outside of the sound, Shepard is a pretty bad ass driver and you'll see
him really work the wheel in the little Cobra. He's steering, counter
steering, and man handling the car around the race track like it is his
job. Oh yeah, he's also working the shifter up and down the gears like
nobody's business, too!
In this setting, it is really clear to see why the Shelby Cobra was such
a feared machine among the European road racing teams of the 1960s. Yes,
they were completely brutal even with the small 289 engines in them but
in the hands of the right guy, a Cobra was virtually untouchable in that
time."
