[DeTomaso] Screen above front of engine

My distributor and very nice Pantera air cleaner with the K&N air filter extend upward beyond the plane of the stock mesh motor cover.  Even using a short paper filter to eliminate the problem for the air cleaner, the distributor still hits the screen and creates problems since the motor shakes, rubbing the distributor cap against the screen.
I like the K&N filter since it breathes much better than the shorter paper filter, it's reusable, and if it gets wet it's not the end of the filter. 

What solutions are there for this screen clearance problem?
