Jeff, the old Splitfire plugs were similar in design. In fact, Splitfire
was sued for damages and went out of business shortly before the E-3 plugs
popped into existence. So who knows, indeed. From what I can find, multi-ground
plugs sometimes show a small gain in power/mileage on lower tuned
carbureted or speed-density efi, but not with mass airflow efi or a highly tuned
carb. And the lifespans reported for the special plugs seem low in respect to
conventional plugs particularly with regard to the price charged. When I was
flying with the Navy and working on old P & W radials, these pre-WW2 engines
used 2-ground plugs made by Champion. As I've said before, some car owners
do believe in magic. My 2¢- J DeRyke
