I've heard from my banker that yes.....there are phony cashiers checks.

Have your banker disclose their policy and time table regarding full, verified clearance of a cashiers check. 

Only when that cashiers check is confirmed by them do you have your money.

Your deposit slip is not a guarantee of funds.
