[DeTomaso] Rubbing inner fender wells

I don't have Campys I have custom made 3 piece forged wheels that were made
based on the measurements I made. I purchased a device that can be used to
measure off set and back space for what ever diameter wheel you would like
to use. I am running 235/40 18's on the front and 335/30 19's on the back.
I made sure that the outside diameter of my new tires was not larger then
the outside diameter of my old 15" Campys. In order to run oversize wheels
and tires with the least amount of problems you have to prepare your car
first. I found that it was necessary to roll the  fender lips. I bought a
tool that has multiple adjustments and a polyurethane roller (looks like a
skate wheel) to roll down your fender lip. Lots of people do the same thing
with a baseball bat. I know you are talking about rubbing on the inside but
while we are on the subject I thought it merited mentioning.
My front wheels only rub on extreme right turn lock. I rarely turn my
wheels that far even when making a u turn but even at full lock it has not
presented a problem. There should never be an occasion when you have to
turn your wheels that far while you are actually driving at anything over 1
or 2 mph.
The idea of trying to reduce the areas of contact seems like a good idea
with one exception. On my car (and from what I have heard anecdotal one
area of contact is the wiper motor cover at the back of the right front
wheel well. I would not suggest hammering on it although you can remove it
and replace it with a modified cover that does not extend out quite as far.
