Yes- back in the '80s. Toluene and benzene have been used since before WW2 
as octane-enhancers. But benzene toluene is poisonous, highly flammable and 
a suspected cancer-causer. Toluene is slightly safer, not confirmed as a 
cancer-causer and Xylene is only flammable and poisonous.... Be very careful 
not to get any on your skin or breath the stuff. The liquids fall into the 
category of 'Fuel' and many of the ones that played around more than I did with 
such chemicals have died of kidney and liver failure. 
You will have trouble buying benzen or toluene, I suspect. All three are 
sometimes used as   paint thinners outside of CA. I'd look for another way to 
enhance your crap-gas than these things. Good luck- J Deryke
