[DeTomaso] ACTUAL Pantera Cooling System Capacity

One more who recommends following Larry's suggestion.

My stock oil pressure gauge does weird things. I have a mechanical gauge
installed where he mentions, and it is rock solid. It's been described that
the stock oil pressure gauge is sort of like an idiot light - it tells you
if you have pressure or not, but I wouldn't bet my life on the readings...

David

I would make up a mechanical test oil pressure gauge so that it can be seen
out the back window and re run your tests. The factory setup if fine for the
weed wacker...

Keep checking you water level too!

Thanks,

Subject: [DeTomaso] ACTUAL Pantera Cooling System Capacity

Thanks to all with suggestions on dumping all of my coolant!

Here is what this weekend brought.

My son and I dumped ALL coolant except the block drain plugs and only
captured 3.5 gallons of coolant.

The manual states the coolant capacity is 6 3/8 gallons US.

When I went to fill the system today (water only) I was only able to fill 5
gallons less spills and expansion tank puking a little while open and
running.

I drove the car around the block maybe 2 miles. Temp was 190 with slight
bumps down when the thermostat kicked in and then slight rise again etc.
But my oil pressure was doing a weird thing again.

Once warm and I leave my garage my oil pressure reads about between 35 and
55. Within this 2 mile circle I run, when at idle the oil pressure drops to
between17.5 and 35.

I checked my oil before I left and once I returned and it visually looked
like I had lost some oil. But it's not showing up on the garage floor

I pulled a sample of the coolant for my son to run through his mass
spectrometer in his lab at NC State, but it seems pretty clear what it is.

Any ideas based on this oil pressure info with regard to getting oil into
my coolant?

Also are there any Pantera owners near Raleigh NC who would like to become
my new best buds?

Seriously though if there is anyone local I would be most grateful for help.
