Last month I received lots of help from the forum regarding an overheating
issue I was having with my new motor.
I ended up burping the coolant system several times
and think I have resolved that issue. My temp gun shows
around 190-200 at the pressure tank and my oil and water temps are good 210/190.
Unfortunately the engine still ran very poorly
after about 15min of driving. The symptoms were it would not idle and start to backfire
when trying to takeoff from a stop. Just getting it home became
a real chore as it would barely run. Long story short
after replacing the old plug wires, coil, and distributor cap it
would still again run okay for only about 15min. Then like a switch going off it would crap out.
After replacing most of the ignition stuff
I decided to replace the ACCEL Points eliminator module
that I had installed 4 years ago. It was looking pretty beatup and the two
sensors were dirty. The rotor had come into contact with the sensor
module and worn a groove into the plastic.

When I took it out of the distributor its plastic cover just fell off revealing the circuit
board inside. I guess it was ready for replacement!

I went to the parts store and got a Pertronix Ignitor 2 and installed it pretty easily.

Wow!! what a difference that made. I immediately drove it for a half hour in city traffic
with no problems. It idles perfectly with no backfires and I am finally getting all
the HP I paid for. I got on it a few times and scared myself real good.
Then I started laughing because I was having such a good time.
You all know what I'm talking about!!!
Thanks to everyone on the forum for all the helpful information and support.
