The 'swirl' tank (also known as the surge tank), is the smaller of the two,
runs under pressure and should always be kept full. The 'overflow' tank is
the larger of the two stock tanks, does not have a pressure cap and should
be kept 'around' half full. Some of us run a very small third tank known in
racing as a 'catch' tank at the end of the overflow tank's hose; a 16 oz beer
can works well for this, keeping fluids off the track surface. You can also
pair the little catch-tank with the ZF's overflow hose, as the little tank
is ideally dumped after each run. On most Panteras, the ZF vent hose will
never spit out extra lube, but if it does, it should not be routed near the
right rear tire, or awful things can happen!
The volume of a given cooling system components is a variable depending on
what cooling system parts are now in the car. You do not add coolant per a
book; you add until things are full as above. FWIW- J DeRyke
