Hi Chris, I will go that route. It's taken way too much time & my installer has not billed me for his time. I can't wait to see his bill. Thanks for your info. SOBill is also on my T-Bird forum, he is a good guy. Myron, the other guy in Cleveland

Myron:

If you spend the money for the electronic speedo drive gizmo, you can then install an AutoMeter Ultra Lite 5" speedometer. Only thing you'll need to run is a couple of wires... Plus the Ultra Lite lets you calibrate it yourself. Find a measured mile, or two miles, and drive it. Doing it yourself allows you to "adjust" for different tire sizes, etc.

Not to mention you'll never, ever have to mess with that darn cable!

I've gone to electronic speedo, and tach. Their the Ultra Lite series instruments, and they're really slick. If you want to get fancy, you can install LED indicator lights in them, just like the original instruments have... but better. SOBill even has schematics for doing the LED lights. I've attached a picture of my Ultra Lite instruments for your viewing enjoyment... and you'll also know that there's someone else out there that got really frustrated with his mechanical instruments...

I opened the speedo by cutting it on my table saw... When I got done with the changes, Super Glue was my friend. I made a clear overlay with my color inkjet printer, and that's how I got the Isis logo, and all the rest of the graphics on to the speedo face. It took a while, but it was fun... and when I installed it, no cables!! In fact it plugs into the original plug now, just like the old one did. Of course I did add a few more wires into the harness, but it's still "plug and play".

No, it's not the SPEEDO. I had & still have the same problem. It's how you fished the cable through out the car--from the ZF to the SPEEDO there is a "kink" or too much of a bend in the cable. My installer sent my speedo to that famous shop in California twice & twice it came back as NO PROBLEM ! I am thinking of some modern way, electronic, maybe GPS guided speedo installation. This has been a two year project for me. Myron the other guy in Cleveland

Well, I got my new cable from Wilkensen, fished it up to dash. That was fun. Had to pull gauge out afew inches. Connected new cable. Now speedomter is dancing up and down, and making a bad clicking sound.Amazing how you fix one thing, and another related thing needs fixing at the same time.Questions: If its the speedometer itself - do you'all know where I can find one? Maybe a vendor at the Rally? Can current be re-built somewhere? Is mine, 88 GT5-S, same as earlier models?Trip Owen88 GT5-S
