I had the same problem.  As Myron said it is more likely your speedo cable installation - not the speedo or cable itself.

As far as the cable is concerned:
1)  Make sure it is well lubricated
2)  Run it as straight as possible with a nice wide U bend behind the dash (This is the main cause of the bounce).

The speedo may bounce at very slow speed.  As you get up to speed it smooths out.

No, it's not the SPEEDO.  I had & still have the same problem.  It's how you fished the cable through out the car--from the ZF to the SPEEDO there is a "kink" or too much of a bend in the cable.  My installer sent my speedo to that famous shop in California twice & twice it came back as NO PROBLEM !  I am thinking of some modern way, electronic, maybe GPS guided speedo installation.  This has been a two year project for me.  Myron the other guy in Cleveland

Well, I got my new cable from Wilkensen, fished it up to dash.  That was fun. Had to pull gauge out afew inches.  Connected new cable.  Now speedomter is dancing up and down, and making a bad clicking sound.Amazing how you fix one thing, and another related thing needs fixing at the same time.Questions:  If its the speedometer itself - do you'all know where I can find one?  Maybe a vendor at the Rally?Can current be re-built somewhere?  Is mine, 88 GT5-S, same as earlier models?Trip Owen88 GT5-S
