That's true. It could be something else.
Usually when the master begins to fail the pedal goes down without resistance and the clutch does not disengage.  Pumping the pedal might make it work because the problem is the fluid is leaking past the seal to some degree.

Are you sure it's the master and not the slave or the clutch itself?
What are the symptoms?
