[DeTomaso] Electric Water Pumps, The 21st Century of Water Circulation

This may look like a plug - but it's really a statement about Meziere's
quality and flexibility.
Our company makes a general-purpose automotive controller
and one of the uses it's put to is running Meziere water-pumps.
(and one of those places is on Meziere's test tank)

Most of my own time has been has been with a 55 gpm remote pump which
I've run mainly on my F-150 windsor, because it's really easy to put
in and out for testing, given all the under-hood space.
And there's more space because the fan is gone, but I had an old Audi
fan kicking around anyway.

The backing-plate and adapters cost me about $110 in addition to the
pump cost.
(and I need another backing plate for the cleveland, when I get around
to the Pantera)
I remove the thermostat and run temperature control with the pump speed.
The way I set it up is:
- the controller runs the pump at 20% power during the warmup cycle
- when the ECT gets close to the setpoint (I use 200),
it runs the pump current proportional to the temperature.
- on shutdown it runs the pump for another 2 minutes for coolout.
There are quite a few other channels on the controller, so it also runs
the fan and monitors gauges.
Running the fan up progressively before running the pump up has worked
well for me.

My point is - there is never a problem with the pump itself or the 55
gph capacity.
It never sees 100% current, except on a hot start when the gauge temp
is 240.
The pickup gets used as a big grey wheelbarrow, so it sees plenty of
hills and overloads.
On an 85 degree day in town stopandgo, the pump gets to 50%.

Good stuff from Meziere.

Similarly I've installed a Meziere on the GT40 to give me a flat firewall. For that application (SBF 302) I actually removed the impeller and shaft out of a mechanical aluminum pump and welded it up to create an empty plenum, this way water hose routing was unaffected.
