Why not use the black plastic tubing that is slit down one side that is made to conceal wires?

Subject: [DeTomaso] Underhood electrical tape

I am looking for first hand experience with a robust tape (black) that could be
used to "dress" underhood electrical wires going to connectors, etc...
I want something I can wrap around the wires (as I don't want to undo the
connectors at the ends).
It seems like the black electrical tape I use becomes brittle and loses its
adhesive when exposed to under hood temperatures.
I heat shrink all my solders and I have tried to find a heat shrink "tape" but
have spent $30 on line and have not gotten what I wanted/expected.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tom
