I also removed my swirl tank and re-engineered the cooling system to self-purge the air out. I have been running in that
configuration for 3 years without any issues. I also have an electric assist pump and can purge the system while the engine is
off...

That is exactly my point.

I have posted before that I removed my swirl tank a long time ago.  I
agree that it helps to remove air from the system, but I don¹t think it is
necessary.  It might help remove tiny bubbles, which might help on a race
car, but for street driven cars all that is needed is an expansion tank,
and an overflow tank.  You could even argue that an overflow is not needed
if the expansion tank is large enough.
