[DeTomaso] fitting new shock into front lower ball joint?

I compared the metal tube in the end of the shock to 3 or 4 different lower ball joints.  It fit into the arms of 2 of them without modifications, but a tight fit.  I don't know what the tolerances for this fit.  I was able to make it fit the present ball joint by taking off a very small amount of material, but this whole exercise leaves me wondering on what the fit of individual suspension parts should be?

Just grind one side. Some sandpaper should make it smooth (but rough would not be an issue since it is metal to metal).

Hi Sam,

I can press out the metal sleeve by hand, I just wanted to see if there were other options first.  I am a little concerned about leaving a rough surface, but maybe that doesn't matter?

Saw your post on the forum. Can you grind the metal sleeve without damaging the rubber bushing? If so just do it on one end or both. If not, use a press to remove the sleeve and grind it down shorter. Reinstall with a press. If you don’t have a press a machine shop can do it. Should not cost much. Sam
