[DeTomaso] DeTomaso Digest, Vol 98, Issue 17-SUNDAY DRIVE

Methanol fuel used in Indy cars has the advantage that it can run at extremely high compression ratios (meaning more power).

Methanol fires can be extinguished with water.

It makes about 15% less HP, so in essence, you're paying corn farmers for nothing, in fact, for not producing food or cattle feed.

and you go about 15% fewer miles per gallon.

All EPA testing is done with real 100% gas, that is one reason you'll never get the same mileage as the stick on the car unless you buy
100% gas.

It's a farce.

I tested the theory with the Magnum Hemi R/T this summer by buying boat gas at a 15% premium price and it got 15% better mileage,

net, zero sum gain, unless of course you count the wear and tear to your car from running that crap in it.

that's why I buy real Premium gas for the Pantera and dump in a bottle of Octane booster as well.

I don't know much about the alternative fuels? But lets say a stock 300hp car gets 20 mpg with Gas, what kind of mpg would the same Car get using Ethanol, or E15, (is that the same stuff?) or Natural Gas or Propane?
Now I'm sure I'm not asking the question right? But you get the idea? I know our Government keeps trying to shove alternative fuels down our throats! But you don't see many off the Government folks driving any of those little Crap cars? LOL

Indy cars run on Ethanol NASCAR on Gasoline. I suspect that's a big part of it.

That shows horse power used VS HP available would be a bit more relevant.
