[DeTomaso] Import papers...

Say a private person imported a later model car (9000 series) to the USA,
and when the car changed hands

the import papers were not passed along every time, so that now they are not
available to the current owner who is selling.

Where would one go to obtain the records? DOT? EPA?

If some state allowed the car to be currently registered, would that be
enough?

(My answer would be no, not for most/all states, but I don't know for sure.
I know California needs the Fed paperwork regardless

of what state(s) the car was previously registered.)

Now it would have been nice if some previous owner sent a copy of the
paperwork to the registry.

Then it would be available to future owners, but this did not happen.

This is a hint to current owners to "save" a copy of their docs in the
registry. Send to Editor1 at provamo.com
