The early version was. Later versions had modular Ford V-8 power, and 
thanks to the lack of the pair of straight-cut transfer gears between the 
crankshaft & transaxle input (necessary to match the Bimmer engine to the 
transaxle), the Ford version was far quieter & cheaper to build. 
BMW seems to be on a buying spree- they now own Husqvarna motorcycles & 
power tools, Rolls Royce as well as the suoersized Austin/BMW Mini. I wouldn't 
worry much about M-1 history; that was a money-loser for BMW from the start. 
The curent management won't want to fall into that black-hole of expenses 
again, and the body shape & performance was virtually identical to the 
bargain priced Pantera. FWIW- J Deryke
