Bill,

is it fair to say that this is not the case with a 1 wire alternator which will limit its ouput to ~14- 15 volts over the resistance of the consumers. i.e. adjust current output to never exceed the 14 - 15 volts?

A word of caution:

Never run the engine with the battery disconnected.

The OEM Pantera alternator will raise it's output voltage in an  attempt to
charge the battery and thus raise the battery voltage. Since the  battery
is disconnected, the battery voltage will be sensed as 0 volts and the
alternator will raise it's output voltage some more.

All the active power consumers on the car will be fed by the  continuously
rising alternator voltage.

You get the picture.

Have fun  today,

I was  looking a putting a drag style shut off on my
firebird battery.. one of my  buddies stated that the
SCCA boys will also check to see that the  alternator
does not keep things running... I guess flaming river
has a  switch that will take care of shutting the battery
and alt at the same  time.. never thought of that one
