[DeTomaso] 429 Big Block (385 series)

Big block, or not?

Well, it can be done. I was lucky enough to have a ride in Forest's car - a
hilarious adventure which I'll always remember.

The conversion has been done without moving the drive-train back 4 inches.
This is optimal, imo.

IMO, if your Pantera needs a power plant to match the beauty of Mr.
Tjaarda's design, this should be considered - especially if you plan on
driving the car many years without an engine rebuild. A good Windsor might
be close in performance, but the longevity won't match at those power
levels.

Negatives? Cooling issues - perhaps. If you feel the need to practice
smokey burnouts, plan to make contributions to Lloyd's Daytona vacation
fund. I believe, with reasonable driving habits, the ZF will live - maybe.
One other drawback is the weight factor. A mostly aluminum 385 series is
pretty close to an iron 351C on the scales. The extra wt. can be
accomadated - but it will always be there!

FWIW, the current "fastest Pantera" in a mile goes to a 545" Big Block car .
. .

David in Durango
Pantera, take it out and play with it!
