[DeTomaso] Brazing

David,

You may also have the torch to hot. You want it to not be making the roaring
sound and to have the two points in the gas flame, not together, about 1/8"
apart. This should help keep the braze in the spot you need it and not all
over.

Ah how I love the collective wisdom of the mailing list. Lot's of good
advice.

I probably should have mentioned that I am using Oxy-Acetylene with flux
coated rods and I do get a popping and sizzling sound when things get
porous.

It seems that Larry has probably diagnosed it correctly.. I am probably
boiling the filler and evaporating one of the filler metals.

Thanks Guys!

David,

If every thing is dry and clean. The flux is good, as others have said. Make
sure you are not over heating the braze metal. It will "boil" (out gas??)
and look like this.

Any of you craftsman out there that can tell me why my brazing is
sometimes porous? I am getting tiny little holes in the brass.

Too much heat, oxygen, not enough, etc? Anyone found any good online
resources for this?

I know it's a bit of a lost art, but I find myself doing it occasionally on
my Jaguar as that was the factory practice.
