Actually, the housing says VDO.  Byars may have had a custom face plate made.  
The meter's movement is highly dampened, so that it reacts slowly to sudden voltage changes.  It takes several
seconds of the needle to return to the "at rest" position (extreme left) when power is removed from the gauge.
