Actually, the vin# is verified at the DMV (as long as there are no issues with the title), and the ladies there never look for smog equipment. No inspection by the CHP is necessary.

If he is bringing it in to California from another state/country it will
have to be inspected, probably
at a CHP office by the VIN officer. That inspection *can* include verifying
smog equipment is installed,
among other things.

a guy in CA is interested in buying my car but says that a 73 or newer car
(mine is a 74) has to be compliant with CA smog rules - is that true? - i
think there are a lot of guys on here that run 74's in Cali w/o special
equipment...but maybe i am wrong about that?

any feedback would be appreciated!
