I like this idea versus the aluminum carriers as i think they would be lighter.If he is not around i do not think it would be that hard to fabricate them.Only difficult part if at all would be matching up the  od for the axle bearings and the lower shaft bushings.

There was a guy in the Reno area, Ron Sipes I believe, that was fabricating sheet metal rear carriers. They were really a work of art, very light, and expensive.   Jack, is he still around?
