Asa,

Ford re-indexed the cam (1973) three degrees retarded, not the crank.

My next build will be a stroker, pretty much for certain on that.  Too
many good reviews from folks just on this forum, not to mention other
forums.  Probably -not- with this engine though.

The block was bored .030 over back in 1985.  I've not sonic checked it,
nor checked for taper or cylinder wear yet but it's a good bet I
shouldn't use it since it's been bored once.

The engine was a 1973 (from my first Mustang Fastback).  As such, I
believe the crank is indexed differently for emissions.  I need someone
to validate that for me and if I can take it out with a properly indexed
timing gear set.

It was suggested I might have the crank turned offset for a stroker kit
using Chevy rods.  Can that be done?  Is it a good idea?  Is it less
expensive to turn this crank than buy one ready made in a kit?

For now, that build is a long way off anyway.  Now that the mystery is
solved, I'll probably box up the pieces and shelve it for a while.
