Mike,

One of the Atlanta Pantera owners had a tie rod break off near the rack end
on the passenger side (I think that was the location, it was a few years
ago).   

Pretty scary to think about when you are running 190 at silver state but in
his case he was going slow.  The car had no evidence of being hit from what
I could see.  His solution was to buy a new rack.
