You should check how your brakes are plumbed.
With a stock master cylinder setup you have a dual or split brake system.
It is designed to prevent what happened to you, loss of brake fluid or no
brakes on one of the brake circuits.
The shuttle valve monitors this difference in brake pressure and brings up
the dash light.
With a loss of pressure in one circuit you should get some loss of brake
effect and greater travel but not pedal to the floor.
If your car is plumbed correctly then maybe the master cylinder is faulty.
