There are two different types of C-4 Corvette seats for Panteras detailed
(with photos) on the Space City Panteras web page;

Yes IIRC they were $800 a pair, but that is at least
2-3 years ago.

For the original Pantera seats Scott at SACC sells the foam for $120/seat
and
covers for $290/set, so materials costs are $530. If you are reasonably
handy
then it’s not hard to learn to use a pair of hog ring pliers and the covers
are
not too hard to fit. I'm not sure if Scott offers the fitting service, if he
does and you want my seats I can ship them to him. Alternatively I'm going
over
to Mike Drew's on Easter Sunday to help him drop his engine back in so I can
take them over there if you want him to ship them on the cheap.

The Corvette seats are more difficult to fit new covers on due to the
complex
shape of the seat. If I recall I paid something like $500 for the pair of
seats
and then invested another $350 in the new covers and they still need
fitting. I
know I won't get all the cost back at this point. I have no idea what a
professional upholstery guy would charge to fit them.

There are some options open to you for Corvette seats. 1. Find good used C4
seats on Ebay. 2. The plastic buckets sell on Ebay fairly cheap, get a pair
and
then purchase the foam & seat covers from a corvette restoration house.
Plenty of them offer seat covers pre-installed on the foam in all the std
Corvette or custom colors. 3. Get a hold of Gary
and see what he is up to.

Julian,
Thanks for info. Were the C4 seats $800 for the pair?
How much will it be to restore/recover those two Pantera seats?
Cheers Bjoern

Bjoern,

I actually have both.... a pair of seats out of a 1973L that need recovering
as the vinyl is torn. I offered them to someone in Europe on the PI forum
for the cost of shipping, but he didn't take them. Scott at SACC
Restorations has quality replacement foam and seat covers available at
reasonable pricing. If it was shipped to my place I could box it all up and
ship onward.

The Gary Herrig seats were the C4 1984-93 square style, I have no idea
whether he is still offering those, they were something like $800, but a lot
of that cost is the base Vette seats which fetch good money. What I have is
the later 1994-96 style (more rounded) which personally I prefer. I haven't
finished them, but I got a set of custom seat covers made with the De-Tomaso
logo embroidered, they just need fitting to the seats... too many projects.

I don't know of anyone using a C5 seat, but no reason it would not fit. The
C5 seats don't have as much side bolster for support, so not as constraining
as the earlier seats, which was a complaint by C5 owners as the driver tends
to slide around more. I have seen a set of Dodge Viper seats in a Pantera
and they looked good, albeit they were custom upholstered for the job.

Cheers,

Julian
