[DeTomaso] NPC - Toyota Prius

Um, make that for real small people for anyone in the back seat. The back has 3 sets of seat belts but all 3 passengers better be skinny! I was in the middle the very last time I'll ever ride in one and the other two gals climbed in before I could get my seat belt fastened. Once they were in - there were rounded but not fat - there was absolutely no way I could get the belt fastened. I did a lot of praying on the way home as the trip to where we'd gone hadn't given me much confidence on the driver!
That and the quietness of the car really scares me; nearly being run into by one was not fun - would hate to have one on an autocross track to watch!
Judy
But... they have plenty of room, and they do pretty well for a small family.

he said if performs well and gets 40 mpg

The Prius is not a bad car, but you need to factor in battery replacement.
I don't know how long the battery lasts in the Prius. My friend Google
probably has a pretty good idea.
I've talked with plenty of Prius owners. They tend to average mid 40's in
mpg. As usual, your mileage may vary.
Once you include the battery replacement costs, they're not much more
economical than a VW turbo diesel or something along those lines.
But... they have plenty of room, and they do pretty well for a small family.
And... they have the same build quality typical of Toyota.
So, I don't really see how he can go wrong.
Look at it this way. The Prius has been selling like crazy for several
years. A large segment of the population hates hybrids. If the Prius had
major flaws, they would be tearing it apart.

Is your son a moviestar wanting to project a green image despite their
airconditioned mansion(s)? If not, talk him out of it

My son is looking at a new 2012 Toyota Prius 2. Does anyone have any
thoughts about them? Probably 20-30,000 miles per year. ----Thanks, Bill
Lewis
