[DeTomaso] Clutch

The weights just apply centrifugal force to the clutch pressure as RPM increases.  A patent is attached describing it.  It appears that Bill Hays was the inventor and later licensed the patent to Midway Inds. (i.e., Centerforce).  Is Bill Hays the original owner of Hays clutches?

Subject: [DeTomaso] Clutch

First, thanks to all that offered some comment - it all helps make a decision.  I hope I didn't miss a personal thank you to everyone.

What we learned:

I have a centerforce alum flywheel, single bolt pattern.  DQ (Dennis Quella) is a McLeod dealer and will check on what help McLeod can offer. (We know that re-drilling the flywheel may not be the best idea.)  I may just put a new disc in it.  DQ also has an adjustable TO brg (mine did work, but was failed) and will coach me through the setup.  DQ was more than willing to spend time with me on the phone to determine options and fixes.  DQ is doing research w/ McLeod now.

Apparently, the CF (centerforce) clutch has the "magic wts." (my term)  that I want to avoid, if I can afford a new McLeod and they have a PP to fit.  I can't afford to replace the flywheel now. (Powered by SS, you know)  Just to note, a few people "don't like" the extra wts but no one could site personal experience with a problem.  I never notice increased pedal effort at high RPM.

What caused my question was some memory of someone having a PP hit the bell housing - perhaps a Mustang clutch?

At any rate, thanks again to all.  I'll keep you posted if I learn anything more.

cheers,

David
