I love old car magazines and their respective predictions.

The 500bhp 289 was ambitious but beautiful with the Webers.

Subject: [DeTomaso] December '67 Car Life Magazine Mangusta review

While on vacation, my family and I stopped in at one of those "antique malls" which seem to populate every small-town tourist destination.  My wife was decidedly more excited about the activity than were my sons and I, but surprisingly, I found some pretty neat items.  I probably shouldn't admit this on the Pantera forum, but over the years. I've been collecting one each of every year of Corvette made.  Unfortunately, my collection is limited to 1/18-scale die-casts, but it's still fun.  Amongst the 1950's dresses, old tennis rackets and "distressed" furniture, I found two more, very-difficult-to-find 1/18 Corvette models--and they were in great shape, although a bit pricey.
Of more interest to the forum, however, is the December, 1967 Car Life magazine I purchased for the princely sum of $4.00 (the original price was 50 cents.  I could have invested in a bunch of them when I was 8 years old, sold them today, and made about 4.5% annual rate of return!)
On pages 74 and 75 there is an article about the Mangusta.  Although the article mentions the car as "not brand new as a show car," it appears the article was written prior to the car actually being sold to the public.  The fact the author hadn't actually seen the finished product is evident when one reads in the article things such as the descriptions of the two available engines; one supposedly producing 437 bhp and the other 507!  That's pretty good for a street-legal 289 in 1967...
I don't think the forum email lets me send attachments, but if a few of you would like me to scan and email the article to you, please contact me individually with your email addresses, and I'll have them sent from my office.
It's a short, but fun, article about the "top speed of 180-185 mph" Mangusta.
Sincerely,
Chris
