Flowcooler recommends this product from their website.
http://www.flowkoolerwaterpumps.com/store/p302/22071-Gasket-Sealer/product_info.html
In the instructions it mentions coating both sides of the gasket.

I would use the thicker gasket, if 2 came with the water pump.
With a standard gasket, when I spun the water pump you could feel the
rivets on the pump rubbing inside.
Not having a thick gasket, I had to use 2 thinner gaskets for the pump to
spin freely.
Check it after installation.

Most auto shops sell straight silicone hose by the length.
Many silicone hoses have stiffer walls and prefer the connections to be
aligned.
I am sure other people will post their recommendations.
