My MISTAKE:

The ammeter needle should be to the RIGHT of center at least a little bit,
even if the battery is fully charged; a lot if it isn't.

If you have the original ammeter in working condition, you should be able to
see if the alternator is charging the battery or not. At 2-3000 RPM, it
should not be showing a discharge (in the minus zone to the left of center)
with normal electrical loads. If it is, something is wrong with the wiring
or the charging system...or the battery has shorted cells. The ammeter
needle should be to the RIGHT of center at least a little bit, even if the
battery is fully charged; a lot if it isn't.
Give us some more feedback.

Alternators are AC generators (alternating current as opposed to DC
generators. Strictly speaking, they are both generators of electricity, but
many automotive people tend to identify a generator as a only producer of
direct current.

Hi Guys,

Maybe someone in the club can tell me what steps to take:.....my generator
light in the console is staying on---can anyone tell me what steps to take
before pulling the generator----or any helpful hints...

I have not been able to access the archives.

Thanks to all,
