[DeTomaso] Dashboard Generator Light Stays On

No one suggested first trying a different voltage regulator, assuming it's the 
stock remote located unit, much easier than replacing the alternator, and if the 
regulator is the issue changing the alternator won't help.

I actually had the light come on on a Ford alternator not long ago, but it kept 
charging.  One of the wires had come off at the alternator, maybe the "S" wire, 
I should keep better notes but I don't.

Way back when the guys from Delco insisted on saying "delcotron generator" 
because in their telling "alternator" was a Chrysler trademark.

The most expedient thing to do is to drive the car to Autozone, Advance,
Rielly's or (not here) Kagens? and let them put cables on your nattery and
see if hour alternator is charging, if not, There you go.

Easy R & R, you can do this yourself in under two hours.  Remove the
passenger seat, remove the firewall trim panel, remove the firewall engine
cover, BAM, there it is!
R & R the unit, install all new belts while you're in there, snug it up
with about a 1/2" of deflection in the middle of the longest span of the
new belt.
Now, the fun part, drive it around for a few minutes with the cover off and
let it get hot.  CAUTION: Its gonna be loud and hot, no loose clothing or
passengers.  Now go home and recheck the belts,  pending any additional
tightening, button it back together, you're done.
