I've always ran the car with no cover and just been careful not to drool in it, etc. :)

The color-coordinating covers are soft plastic. Buy one and drill it full
of holes if you can't find a screen or have one made. Personally, I 've never
run a cover or screen in the hole and am simply careful when fiddling
around that area as well as the carb (when the aircleaner is off).
Clutch ventillation is important in competition and it doesn't have to be
road-racing with lots of clutch use; all clutches slip a little under high
horsepowe/high torque. Slip = heat. Al Bloomberg punched several 1-1/2" holes
in the flywheel cover below the bellhousing in his record-setting Bonneville
Pantera, for flow-through ventillation. And some racing Chevys leave the
whole lower cover off in their racers. Probably wouldn't work too well on the
street in rainy weather, though. FWIW- J DeRyke
