[DeTomaso] Race Mangusta on Ebay

The listing claims documentation that the car was raced in the 70s which I assume is related to it being a legitimate vintage race car? It's clearly highly modified, so I guess the value to an individual is based on wanting those modifications, and I assume it would be extreme expensive to duplicate, but that raises the same issue with Panteras having a $100K restoration and no one willing to pay more than $50K for it.

I gave it some serious consideration previously, it is a beautiful car but price is way out of my range especially for a car that doesn't really have any real coveted racing history, other than an SCCA logbook (which I have for just about all my cars so I can run local SCCA events).
There's lots of photos at Chuck's registry, including it's demise during the Cannonball Run in the late 90's (?) at which time it was still a road registered car. Most of the modifications appear to be mor modern. I'm not sure why it is now reputedly getting coveted FIA Papers.

Lilo has material (log book) to establish its history as being raced, and it was accepted for the Monterey Historics a couple years ago. I guess that makes it pretty rare.
