[DeTomaso] Oil coolers?

I run a Ford/Laminova water to oil cooler snuggled up under the floor next
to where the e-brake lever penetrates the floor. Being small in dia, it does
not hang down below the chassis, and installation consisted of measuring
its length, then cutting that much off the return water pipe at the engine end
and adding two pieces of 1-3/8" radiator hose. The dash-6 oil lines are
less than 3 ft long and dash-8s would also fit. With an oil thermostat, the oil
temp stays at water temp (so far), no extended warmup times and a standard
oil pump still gives the same oil pressure as before. If you didn't see it
in place you'd never know it was there except for more stable oil temps. It's
been dependable for 6 yrs now.
Total investment (including the oil thermostat & AN fittings)= $100 and it
can be disassembled and cleaned- something no other design can do. This is
handy if you ever lose an engine, as shrapnel normally loads the cooler and
welded units CANNOT be cleaned. D Quella runs a Laminova on his road race
Pantera, and is a dealer for Laminova-USA; there are larger and smaller units
than the one Ford chose for their police cars & taxis. If you're worried that
cheap wrecking-yard Ford/Laminovas aren't big enough, two could be
series-or parallel-connected; mounted under the floor they would still take up
essentially no space & weigh little. FWIW- J DeRyke
