[DeTomaso] Oil coolers?

Michael,

Is that an air/oil cooler? I noted that my oil was consistently 10 C (~20 F)
higher than water _without_ an oil cooler as long as I wasn't pushing the
car. I think I never saw above 110C which is about 25 C above water (at the
time I was using a 180 F thermostat). With the cooler the oil follows water
temp at all times.

Mine is located in front of the RR tire, works great, oil temp always
about 40 degrees warmer than water.

I installed mine in the location John Taphorn uses. I chose to route the
tubes around the car, not through though. The two oil lines have about
three
meters of length together. That's about what you'd have in a front
engine
car with a front mounted air/oil cooler too. I used 5/8" hose as the
Ford
cooler nipples were that size. I can't see that my oil pressure has
dropped
on the gauge which is good enough for me.

I use a Laminova oil cooler and it does are great job. The problem is
where
to put it and how long your oil lines are going to be to and from it.
You
will lose oil pressure because of the oil line lenghts, so that is
something
to consider, but it can be compensated for. As most of us here already
know,
mounting an air to air oil cooler is difficult in a Pantera because it
would
be hard to get cool air to flow through it. I have thought about putting
an
air to air oil cooler where the air conditioning condenser is, but there
tends to be an air flow problem there above 100 mph or so.
