Hey Asa Jay,

I have the Weiand 8209 water pump on my car. No backing plate in the impeller. I've had it on the car since 2006, but then spun a rod bearing, so my car's been off the road since 2008.

FWIW, if you use the Weiand water pump, you can use either a Cleveland or Windsor style thermostat because the Weiand water pump does not have the bypass.
