[DeTomaso] Engine Choices

Dear Michael,

                IIRC, there way somebody in Europe who did put a V8 BMW 
engine in a Pantera.   The good news is that it has been done and can be 
done.  The bad news is that from my brief review of hot rodding 
(improving) BMW engines, they do not lend themselves to modifications.

"BMW" is one of the options... which returns 12 cars.

OK so 10 are Guaras, but that leaves two Panteras.  Checking now...

OK one is "in process" which leaves one car:

As you can see it is in the "Unknowns" list... meaning the VIN is unknown.

I *thought* I had a video (for the engine sound) but it's not on the 
Photo & Detail page.

                After building four Clevelands, I figured that I would 
build an engine for my old BMW 535is.   I would buy an old engine, tear 
it down and use the same strategies and techniques  that worked on a 
Ford V8.   I was naive.  I learned that despite volumes of books on how 
to hotrod Chevys, Fords, Mopars, and Volkswagen engines, there are *no* 
written references for BMW engines.   I learned that parts are amazingly 
expensive.    I found that disassembly and reassembly of the heads 
requires special tools.    I came to the conclusion that they were more 
than I wanted to tackle and that the Cleveland looks attractively simple 
and effective.
