Paul,

The new fuse box is a must have, Pantera Electronics, Jon Haas, it was
one of my first improvements when I bought my car.

I also had a problem with my switch, everything worked regularly with
an intermittent starter activation issue, turns out the wire
was practically melted in two, most all of the red plastic sheathing
was brittle and pink.

I installed a push button 60 amp start switch in the console ( I
wanted one anyway ), now everything works great.

If your switch is beyond that point ( for from your description, yours
seems more fied than mine ),
you may need a new switch ( $$), if you do install one, the relay
makes perfect sense.
